Bus A1 runs from the airport to the centre every 15 minutes and takes about 20 minutes.

The vintage Soller train from Placa Espanya crosses the Tramuntana and is a trip in its own right.

Santa Catalina is the food neighbourhood, the market plus the streets around it.

Hiring a car makes sense for the north coast, but old town parking is scarce and expensive.

Tramuntana on the cheap

Take the Soller train, then the tram down to the port. You get the whole mountain range for the price of two tickets and no hire car.

Cathedral light show

Twice a year in February and November the rose windows project onto the opposite wall. Any sunny morning still gives you the best colour inside.

June through October, with September usually the warmest water of the year.

Marina and beach-club prices are high, but the old town and Santa Catalina markets are priced like any Spanish city.
