Metro line E runs from the airport to the centre in about 30 minutes.

The port lodges are in Vila Nova de Gaia across the bridge, not in Porto itself. Walk the upper deck of Dom Luis I to get there.

Livraria Lello charges a timed entry ticket that is redeemable against a book. Book online or expect a long queue.

Douro valley day trips run by road, rail and boat. The train from Sao Bento to Pinhao is the cheap scenic option.

## Local knowledge

The upper level is for the metro and pedestrians. Walk across to Gaia, watch the light hit Ribeira, then start your port tasting.

## Frequently asked questions

Metro line E takes around 30 minutes to Trindade for a standard zoned fare.

Two days for the centre, Ribeira and the port lodges, plus a full day for the Douro valley.

In summer yes, especially for the bigger houses. Smaller lodges often take walk-ins mid week.

Yes but steep. The riverfront to the cathedral is a serious climb, so use the funicular or metro when your legs are done.
