Deutsche Bahn covers the country and the Deutschlandticket gives a month of unlimited regional and city transport for one flat price.

Cash still matters. Plenty of bakeries, bars and market stalls are card free or set a minimum spend.

Round up or add roughly 5 to 10 percent, and say the total you want to pay as you hand over the money.

Tap water is safe everywhere, though restaurants will assume you want bottled unless you ask for Leitungswasser.
