> Feeds, chat apps and AI assistants are becoming checkouts. A channel-by-channel look at where tour bookings now start, and what each one needs from your inventory.

Tourpublish is the publishing layer above your reservation system, not a reservation platform. Every tour operator should be able to publish everywhere from one place.

Discovery moved years ago. This year the checkout followed it. Here is the honest map of where tour bookings now start, and what each channel wants from you.

## 1. The video feed

TikTok GO, launched in the US in May 2026, lets travellers book hotels, attractions and experiences from videos, search and location pages, with creators earning commission on what they sell. Instagram and Threads are pointed the same way. The feed is no longer the top of the funnel, it is the whole funnel.

**What it needs from you:** a bookable link per tour that opens instantly on mobile, with live availability and no login wall.

## 2. Chat

WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger and LINE are where the last mile of travel planning happens: a friend asks the group which food tour to do, someone pastes a link. Most operators still answer these messages by hand and lose the booking to a slow reply.

**What it needs from you:** a link that renders a proper preview, prices in the traveller's currency, and takes payment without a phone call.

## 3. AI assistants

ChatGPT and Claude now answer "what should I do in Porto on Thursday" for millions of people a day. They quote sources they can read. If your tours only exist inside a booking widget that a crawler cannot parse, you are invisible in that answer while an OTA listing of your own product is not.

**What it needs from you:** structured, public, current product data. This is the least glamorous work on the list and the highest leverage.

## 4. Creators

Affiliate income has overtaken sponsored posts as travel creators' main revenue source, and small accounts now take close to half of US influencer spend. Creators are becoming a distribution channel with an audience attached. We wrote about that shift in [Creators Are Becoming Distribution, Not Marketing](https://tourpublish.com/blog/creators-as-distribution-partners) .

**What it needs from you:** a commission on confirmed bookings and a trackable link per creator.

## 5. OTAs

Still enormous, still worth keeping, still 20 to 30 percent of the ticket. The mistake is not using them, it is letting them be the only path a traveller can take. See [how to reduce OTA commission without losing volume](https://tourpublish.com/blog/reduce-ota-commission).

**What it needs from you:** accurate inventory and rate parity discipline, plus a direct channel strong enough that you can negotiate.

## 6. Your own website

It still closes bookings, it just rarely starts them any more. Treat it as the destination that every other channel points at, not as the shop window you wait behind. The [direct booking conversion checklist](https://tourpublish.com/blog/direct-booking-conversion-checklist) covers what to fix there first.

## The common thread

Every channel on this list wants the same three things: clean product data, live availability, and a link that can be dropped anywhere and still take money. Build that once and each new channel becomes a switch you flip, not a project you fund. That is the whole idea behind Tourpublish: every tour operator should be able to publish everywhere from one place.

## Frequently asked questions

### Are travellers still booking tours on operator websites?

Yes, but increasingly the website is the last step rather than the discovery step. Travellers find the experience in a feed, a chat or an AI answer, and the website only wins the booking if it is one tap away from that moment.

### Do AI assistants send bookings to tour operators?

They send qualified traffic when your product information is structured, current and publicly readable. Assistants summarise what they can parse, so operators with clean, machine-readable tour data get recommended and those hiding availability behind scripts do not.

### Which channel should a small operator start with?

The one where you already get questions. For most operators that is Instagram DMs or WhatsApp. Make the tour bookable inside that conversation before you add anything new.
